Dear Mr John Rich
.
I’m Xavi Colomer and I’m a student at INS Castelló d’Empúries. I’m writing to you because I want to know if the nuclear power stations are safe or not, if they pollute and if they produce a lot of energy.
A few days ago, power station in Fukushima had a problem with the refrigerator, caused by a tsunami. Today the power station has a little hole in a radioactive water tank, and radiation spreads almost everywhere. For this reason, at the moment there is discussion about the nuclear power stations to decide if they are necessary or not.
On the one hand, I think that these types of energy are necessary to supply the energy demand to developing countries. But also it is true that more renewable energy could be used for example, wind energy, solar energy, photovoltaic energy…
On the other hand, if the radioactive water tank explodes it would be like Chernobyl, one of the most serious catastrophes. People will be born with birth defects.
But I think in future, this problem with power stations will be solved, and scientists will find new renewable energies.

Yours sincerely
Xavi
